Does any one else over schedule with the planner?

  • I have been using the planner for a week now (I LOVE it), but I was wondering if anyone else over schedules so that you don’t have to add in resources should you decide to do something not scheduled for that day.

Today we used a math game program for fun instead of our usual text book, but since it wasn’t on the schedule already I went and added it and put it on for M -F so that it will be there for each kid should he decide to play some time in the future.

    Does anyone else do this?

Yep. My girls are making use of their craft skills to provide baby layettes (knitted booties, crocheted afghans, hats, etc.) for a local charity (Tiny Stitches). I just keep a resource called “Tiny Stitches” on the schedule all the time so we can check it off whenever they work on it.

I also have one daughter who is learning violin, so I put a “Violin” resource on her schedule, M-F, and she just checks it off as Worked On each day she practices on it.

I suppose another possible way of adding something not originally scheduled would be to just put a note in the Daily Journal; but for something that will be repeated, I like having it on the schedule.

I kind of do this too with my son who does a couple written narrations a week, and a news story/current events narration once a week, and copywork the other days. I give him some leeway to choose what he does on a certain day–depending on whether a good news article came across my computer that day, or whether he enjoyed a reading chapter and wants to do a written narration on it–so all three are on his list and he checks off the one he actually does. That way I don’t have to worry about recording anything fancy, but I know about how often he is doing certain things. Since if I don’t check, he “forgets” to do enough written narrations. 🙂 No one else’s sons ever does anything like that, do they? 🙂

I have all kinds of extra things on my schedule. I even have myself as one of the students so I can keep track of what I read and want to read and my work schedule.
