No, he doesn’t, I wish he did! I appreciate that he trusts me to educate our children but he doesn’t really understand. We have people asking us what is the problem with sending our kids to public school and I have to explain to him over and over.
I asked him what method we use and he said, “Traditional homeschool” and when I asked what that meant, he said, “Reading, Writing and Arithmetic.” So, apparently, he doesn’t.
I actually talk to him about it, but he must not listen. 🙂
He’s very supportive of our homeschooling and we both are homeschool graduates ourselves. It’s just not his department. He works and we have a homestead and other than listening to occasional narrations or to the kids practicing reading, he isn’t that involved in it.
(And when he tells me what methods he uses in software development, I don’t really listen either.) 🙂
He has heard her name, although I don’t know if he would remember it. He has an idea of how it works……. because I read books in the bathroom and leave them there (and he obviously occasionally picks them up… lol)
He has occasionally pointed out when things don’t seem to be matching…. “I thought this was supposed to be an atmosphere – a part of life – instead of calling everyone to schooling” type of idea…
But generally, he feels this is my area, and is supportive, but really doesn’t want to hear me trying to figure out which books, or stuff like that….
Interesting question. I brought this thread to my hubby and he said, “Charlotte Mason? Isn’t she the spider that saved Wilber?” LOL! Then just smiled when I started laughing!
In reality he is actually VERY involved and helps with many aspects. From planning to actual everyday stuff. I still do most of the work but he knows what goes into it and in the past few years has become more and more heavily involved. He takes the lead in a lot of the math (esspecially with my oldest, who struggles) and some science. He is also involved in the planning process and has helped me create a lot of the planners, spreadsheets and other such planning items as I need it. I take the lead in planning and choosing actual curriculum but almost always go over it all with him before we order anything. He will sometimes help choose between a few different options of curriculum for a subject (such as choosing between 3 different choices of programming courses).
We discuss almost everything and homschooling is no different, so he knows quite a bit. : )
