We don’t, but I’ve recently thought that I need to at least teach my son the pledge of allegiance. He was at a birthday party recently where the children had to do different things after finding various clues in a scavenger hunt. He was the only one there who didn’t know the pledge. (He was also the only child who has been entirely homeschooled.)
We have gone over these a few times over the year, but we don’t say them each day. I’m with Shannon on the Pledge of Allegiance, I think we should learn and do this more often. The Christian Flag and Bible pledge are neat to know, but don’t hold as much value (to me anyway) as knowing actual scripture. My kids know those from VBS each summer.
We do say the Pledge of Allegiance (U.S. flag) at least once a week because I think it’s important to give them a sense of patriotism early on. I also feared my dc not knowing it and being asked – many people look down on homeschooling and this would just give them something to ‘talk’ about. Maybe I’m just a little paranoid. 😕
Another pledge of allegiance a dear friend shared with me just yesterday that she says daily (sometimes several times in a day) is:
“God our Father, I pledge my allegiance to You. I give You my heart, my work, and my life. In turn I ask for the grace to obey Your every direction to the fullest possible extent.”
This is a good one for the morning family prayer time, isn’t it? 🙂
OOOh! I love that pledge! I may need to add it to our devotional time.
We say the pledge everyday. My daughter started out in public school, so for her, it was a routine we could keep to signify the “start” of our “school” day.
Faith 🙂
