I also find the Planning your CM education very helpful! Between that and the SCM free curriculum guide, there is very little to do!
Our plans:
SCM Mod 2–Can’t wait to see the changes!!
Scripture Memory Mod 3 (goes with history mod 2)
Wisdom and the Millers for character study
Mathusee
McGuffey readers for copywork, dictation, grammar, phonics, reading aloud, etc.
science will either be Apologia or various living books
Little Hands to Heaven for my 3yo–I’m not a fan of all the activities, but it occured to me that we can just skip those! I have a simple checklist to mark off which ones we do.
MCP A for 6yo; Write On and Mavis Beacon Typing for 10yo; cursive for 8yo
Many of the others I like to decide on at the last minute–literature, art/composer/artist studies, handicrafts, etc…I’m hoping to pick up some of the SCM art portfolios and Creating a Materpiece DVDs if it’s in the budget.
I am also working on adding in some extra independent books for my older two…I’m looking at the AO and HUFI books for ideas. I’d like to have a list of appropriate books for them to choose from.
I’m also thinking of having a special focus or two for each term. For example, for term 1, we’d work on nature study and pastels. Term 2 would focus on Shakespeare and crochet. Term 3 would focus on grammar and Nature study again. I guess it would be like electives in a public school. It seems like a great way to fit in more of the extras without getting overwhelmed.
For next year we are probably finish AO year 1 and dive into year 2 immediately. We are following them for nature study, hymn study, picture study, and composer, so that takes care of that. Not much planning involved 🙂
For copy work we are still working with handwriting and writing numbers, after we finish that I’ll have to see what we’ll use…
The only big thing I’m adding this year is math u see, until now we have been only doing living math, but I believe that my son is now ready for more formal math.
As for my soon to be 4 year old, it’ll be pretty much the same:playing outside, reading to her, and allowing her to participate in the picture study, hymn, nature journal, etc as we have already been doing. No academics for her until she is at least 5.
All Together: Bible-Bible Study Guides for all Ages Unit 2 Read a chap. a week in Trial and Triuph. History- Continue with SOTW 3. I am adding a lot of extra American History to it. Science-Sassafras Zoology, adding World of Animals instead of the DK Ency. recommended. Also adding God’s Design World of Animals for my oldest. I will have her write narrations for it. Picture Study-I have this AMAZING program that was given to me of called Picturing America. It is poster size, laminated pieces of American art work in chronological order! Spanish- These flip books I got from Lakeshore Learning, for the younger two. Rosetta Stone for my oldest.
