It seems like my older kids would really benefit from some art lessons in nature drawing/painting to enhance their nature notebooks for nature study. Where do I start with this? It would really help them, I think, in adding more detail to their drawings/paintings. We have had some instruction from an art teacher who specifically showed our kids how to draw several different nature subjects but she is not really teaching anymore. 🙁
Any suggestions on curriculum that specifically teaches at an in depth level on how to draw flowers, trees, other plants, birds, insects, etc.. I know that there are many books out there but I get overwhelmed sometimes!
I found the Opening the World Through Nature Journaling curriculum by John Muir Laws and the California Native Plant Society and it looks really good. I plan to use it with my boys. It’s free, by the way. Here’s the link, I hope you find it useful!
I did not ask this question, but I wanted to thank you for sharing this resource. I just downloaded it, and it has some great material, especially for me, as I am considering starting a Nature Club.
Hi RuthAnn, I’m glad you think this will be useful to you!
I just remembered that John Muir Laws also has a YouTube channel with how to draw videos. They’re very specific, like how to draw trees, how to draw fish, etc. The ones I watched were very good. He’s a very talented artist.
