For me homeschooling in SC we have the choice either to keep a planner or a journal! I have been trying out both approaches. I like being able to plan my week ahead of time but I have noticed that we don’t always get everything done like the planner says or I have to go back and change the plans. Im thinking that journaling your days are kind of a neat thing to do although it’s alot of writing. Any comments or suggestions!

I do both… I pre-plan, then I check things off as we go (of course there are always things we don’t get to that roll over to the next week) and I journal about anything I think I’ll want to remember later. I like it! 🙂

    Both.

I pre-plan and then add anything else we get to. I’ve just started adding some photo’s. 1 page to a week.  We also add copies of any work I think the Education Dept. would be interested in seeing. Eg. handwriting/copywork, typing, letter, story, art work, math grades. All of this becomes our childs yearly portfolio.

I don’t journal but list activities carried out.

    Warmest wishes, Renelle

I pre-plan on the organizer, but not on paper.  I’m wondering if this is enough?

    JennNC,

I’d love to know more about how you journal.

The organizer is enough – you can print out your plans, and what you actually do…

Thanks – that’s helpful – the O is such a time saver for me

    JennNC,

I’d love to know more about how you journal.

ruthm, it is really nothing fancy… I use OneNote for just about everything… and so I just created a page in OneNote for each of the kids, and then a general page for all of them together. I can add journal notes about anything important or funny or memorable that happens, notes about how they are progressing in various skills, etc. I can add pictures or documents or webclips or links or anything that is relevant. Every time I add a note, OneNote dates it for me.

What got me started was the desire to NOT reinvent the wheel with each of my kids (I have seven, and was finding that I wasn’t remembering things I did with the older kids when the littles started coming through.) So I started writing down the problems certain ones were having, and how we eventually solved them, things like that. And it just grew from there.

It is really nice to be able to look back and see where we’ve been. I don’t journal every day but I do try to do catch up the journal notes at least once a week.
