My DH and I are trying to put together our own student and teacher planners for this year. They would include things like weekly subject lists, term charts (made from a spreadsheet), evaluation checklists, lesson plans for any “mom designed courses” for them to follow, memorization work, etc. I am VERY inexperienced with using word processing and spreadsheets. My DH is very busy with work right now and so we have not been able to work on getting these things made together. Is there an app that I could use to do this on my iPad that might make it a little more intuitive and user friendly in order to accomplish this on my own? Or is this a pretty stupid question because iPads were not meant to be used for this type of work? : }
Well, I checked it out, but it doesn’t seem like it would be able to do anything like making up a term chart. It seems like more of a list organizer of sorts. So maybe I could do the lesson plans and the evaluation lists on it. Also, I didn’t see anything on using it to create homeschool planners. Mostly just how to use it for many other homeschooling purposes. It could very well be that I simply do not understand it well enough, though, and it actually could do these things. I will keep looking into it, I guess.
I use an app called Pages to make documents and spreadsheets. It is really easy to use. (Although I did have to search google for the landscape (horizontal page) template for this app to create wider spreadsheets.)
Thanks Janell. I looked at that one but in the “how to” videos it looked like you could just do tiny little spreadsheet-like templates within a document. Are you able to do full page spreadsheets using this? If so, I think I may get it, as it did look like it was the closest to being able to do what I wanted to use it for.
I’ve been using it since August and LOVE it. As suzukimom said, I can plan everything out for the whole year, but with a quick copy and paste, I can adjust the schedule as needed. I colour coded each child’s page so that they know what they can start on without me and what we have to do together, so even my 8yo and 6yo can get going by themselves. Then we just check off what has been completed, so we have a record. Simple, but brilliant. Did I mention I LOVE it?
It might give you a starting point to develop all the rest of the features you want.
If you’re just looking for a spreadsheet/doc program, google docs is decent and free… You can access your docs from anywhere… And keep them organized easily.
