Discovering Nature Series- Further Investigation…anyone use this with a boy?

I have almost my whole year planned out (3 kids) and just now read through Discovering Nature Series’ Further Investigation which I purchased for my son for his chemistry course. I had just learned of this series and bought two other books for my other kids (one in 8th and the other 1st). I read through the text and the storyline is of a forensic scientist. I thought this would be of great interest to him but the storyline is also about her falling in love with the new preacher that comes to town and in the end, the man proposes to her. I just don’t think my son, is going to really get into the story enough to even gleam the chemistry concepts from it. Apologia is what we have used up to now but it’s been kind of “heavy” and he is not planning on going into a science related field anyway. Any inputs? Thinking I might just skip chemistry and do a year of Astronomy instead.
