Can anyone recommend a child-friendly and creation-friendly book on dinosaurs and/or documentaries. My budding 5yo has a growing curiousity. Thanks so much!
Thanks. We have Ken hams book dinosaurs of eden and see there are a few others by AIG, but wasn’t sure what was best for this age. Do you have any favorites? Thanks again.
We have D is for Dinosaur, and the kids have always loved that one. We got it when my oldest was maybe 4 or 5. My almost-3yo is just starting to look through it a bit, and my 3 older kids all still love it and read through it often.
There are also some rec’d dinosaur books in 106 Days, but we haven’t gotten to them yet, so I can’t tell you if we like them or not. Others may be able to chime in, though.
Well, my ds8 has lots of dinosaur books. So if you want to know about any in particular, just pm me. One of his favorites that is more appropriate to a 5 year old is a set of little board books and stacking boxes you make a puzzle with. It’s called “Dinosaur Pak & Stak”.
He also likes “Dinosaur Activity Book – The Wonders of God’s World” by Snellenberger, with reading, coloring, and cut and paste activities.
I got them from http://www.libraryandedu.com for the best price. They are wholesale to schools and libraries and churches, including homeschools. They have lots of resources from Master Books.
He loves the Buddy Davis dvds. One is titled I Dig Dinosaurs.
Some of the illustrations are a bit cheesy but I thought the text was great. My kids are young (7, 6, and 4) but it led to great discussions. There were several things in it that I honestly hadn’t give much thought to that I thought they answered really well. I read through several books. Dinosaurs is a tough subject in my opinion because there is so much we just don’t know. I appreciated that this book talked about the different leaps that science makes but that we can trust that God created dinosaurs and that He knows what they really look like and such.
I wanted to add that another one I wanted to read was Dinosaurs By Design. I’ve heard it’s really good, but I couldn’t find it at the library and was trying not buy any books at the time.
I just wanted to chime in our favorites. I also liked the book “The Great Dinosaur mystery and the Bible” This is my favorites because it tells different stories of Dinosaurs that were sited and documented through time. I also liked Kent Hovands video’s about Dinosaurs. He has interveiwed people who have seen actual Dinosaurs that are still around today. His videos are very educational and scientific. He tells why the earth is only about 6000 years old and how it can’t be millions. Why there couldn’t be a big bang unless it was the one God created. He was a Science Teacher and has the Creation Museum in Pensecola, Florida. I recommend any of his material. There is no copy writes on his materials so you could make a copy for yourself if you can get it in at the library.
We also traveled to Glenrose, Texas to see the footprints of humans and Dinosaurs together. That is very interesting. My oldest daughter was having a hard time beieiving in intellegent design. (public school taught) We took her there for spring break and she was convinced after seeing all of the evidence first hand. I would recommend at least one trip to this place to anyone who has sceptical teenagers. 🙂 I do like Hovands videos better but to see actual prints is a great way to go. I would suggest to go in the summer though when the river is down.
My son can’t find his favorite Dinosaur books. His little sister was reading them yesterday. Otherwise I would give you a list of his favorites. One his oldest sister bought him because of his love for Dinosaurs. He also has an A-Z Dinosaur Encyclopedia. He found a fossil last week and thinks it is a dinosaur tooth. 🙂 He watched a video on Utube and it looks like that one! 🙂 I love his imagination he had a wild story to go with it too.
I hope you find many books to spark his creative mind. Blessings!
Thank you so much for all these great suggestions! I’m happy to report that my library has a few of these . Chocodog, I’d love to visit Glenrose!! Also we found Ken Hovands videos free online – these will be great for my older boys.
On a side note, I was bummed to find out that we just missed AIG’s Ken Ham, who was about an hour from us yesterday- speaking about Dinosaurs .
