    Anyone familiar w/this recipe?

    http://www.mommypotamus.com/homemade-toothsoap-tooth-powder-recipes/

It is very different from anything I have done so far, which is not working too good, I find my teeth are getting too yellow.

According to this blog Xylotol is no good for teeth, there is no baking soda in the tooth soap either.

I tried to make it but didn’t want it to be too liquid so I added some bentonite clay and arrowroot.

    And honey?

I am really wondering about this, someone else asked about it on the blog and contrary to what I would have thought, it says honey does not promote cavities.

What are your takes on this?

Raw honey is naturally anti-bacterial, so it would make sense that it wouldn’t promote cavities. I just started adding bentonite clay to our toothpaste. We shall see if we like it in the long run. Also, for yellow or stained teeth, you can brush with activated charcoal a few times per week for natural whitening. My toothpaste does use baking soda, which I also think helps with whitening. Mommypotamus is one of my favorite blogs, and I have never made a bad recipe from her site. I also own her DIY Beauty ebook, which is full of great cosmetic recipes, including tooth powders. I trust her research and knowledge.

My dentist said not to use raw honey – period – and she is a biological dentist (ie- kind of like a naturopathic/homeopathic version of a dentist who still uses a drill, if that makes sense) and uses things like propolis to make a wash for sores in the mouth, etc.

The version that I am using now, and I must say that my teeth are whiter than they’ve ever been is this:

    1/4 – 1/2 cup of baking soda
1/4 – 1/2 t sea salt (I use himalayan and eyeball this measurement)
    1 – capsule calcium
    1 – shelf-stable capsule pro-biotic
    1/2 t – 1 t magnesium (I use Natural Calm)
1 -3 drops of myrrh essential oil
10 – 20 drops of lemon essential oil
dash of stevia to take the salty edge off

Shake well.  Store in screw top lidded container & dab toothbrush in to “load” tooth powder.

Sometimes I add coconut oil to this to make this more of a paste – though not squeezable. I store in the same container and rub the toothbrush through it to load it.

    Thank you!

Lindsey I might try the activated charcoal.

I like her blog too, I’ll check out that ebook!

The last batch of toothpaste I made has baking soda in it which does not seem to help w/whitening, hard to tell because I keep switching between that and an herbal one from Dr.Christopher!?!

Many people do not seem to recommend baking soda on a regular basis (mommypotamus included)

Blue j I have done something similar to your recipe, hard to make it work for the kids taste wise. I just keep on experimenting!!

Maybe I try stevia in my next batch instead of the raw honey.

I just bought the baby Dr.Bronner instead of the peppermint but I am suspecting it will still taste like soap, I do not put the full amount.
