Good morning,
My son is doing primary language lessons/Emma Serl and English for the Thoughtful Child,Spelling by Sound and Structure 2 ,Math Beta (not done but we also do more than that in math ) we read Busy Time and a lots of other book.
I post before saying that my son was not ready for 3rd grade but in two week did a major progress in reading.
Anyway, I enregistered in 3rd grade but want to know the difference between both to see what I should do more ?

I might suggest that either PLL OR EFTC would be a good choice, but I personally wouldn’t do both. Also, unless you just want a spelling program, or unless your son just enjoys it, I wouldn’t add Rod and Staff spelling either. I would use copywork for spelling until he gets older and is ready for dictation. We like the Spelling Wisdom resource that SCM sells.

I would agree with Heather and add that, in my mind, third grade language arts is a continuation of practicing reading and handwriting to gain fluency. In handwriting, a third grade student will probably make the transition from copywork to transcription, which is a natural preparation for dictation/formal spelling lessons that will come around fourth grade. In reading, he will continue to gain confidence and make progress toward reading his school books on his own, which also starts around fourth grade. You can introduce some of the English points that are covered in PLL or EFTTC if desired. And of course, his oral narrations will continue to lay the groundwork for written narrations, which will begin (shall we all say it together?) around fourth grade.

Thank you both for answering me, so I am doing to much …..I will keep with EFTTC and PLL. So I should do one of those also ?
I guess I am so scare his not a level 3 .He his very good at dictation already when he copy once or twice…..My delemna is he does not like to read, I need to force him ! Any suggestion on that ?
On another note, what about Math ? I am still in Math U see Beta !!!! and I know I should be doing Gamma ?!

MUS is not grade based, it is mastery based. As long as forward progress is being made, I was told not to worry.

Is your son interested in anything special. Maybe finding books that are a bit more interesting for him and less concerned about them being the “right” book for his grade. I also found that having plenty of books that were “easier” really boosted my DD confidence to read and now she reads a lot.
Some children do not become fluent readers until later. Does he have any learning challenges, or need his eyes checked. Anything going on that could make reading difficult or just not very much fun?
