My 7 year old just finished her veggie tales devotional book. It was very simply written so she was able to read them on her own. She is just starting to read fluently so anything that she reads independently has to be very, very simple. I wondered if anyone might have a suggestion as to what might be a good devotional book that I can buy for her now. Something very short and simple to read (like grade one level) and meaningful?
Have you seen Stepping Stones to Bigger Faith for Little People by Joyce Herzog? It’s titled as for family devotions, but I wonder if the vocabulary would work for your 7yo to read independently. Very short, practical thoughts in a large font. (Her other volume, Stepping Stones to Praise & Worship, is also good but has a little longer passages and smaller font.)
I have to second Hind’s Feet on High Places. It was one of the lovelist childrens devotions we’ve ever read; The allegory of Much Afraid and the Shepherd King will forever be embedded in my heart. ~ heather
I found the Stepping Stones book for under $2 on Amazon… yay! I ordered it and am excited for my dd to start using it. I noticed that it’s not super long (only about 30 devotionals) so I’m going to go check out Hind’s Feet now, I really appreciate the recommendations. I love the wholesome materials that everyone recommends, this is such a great community!
