Delightful Reading with an older child?

I found the older edition of Delightful Reading at a used book sale and I’m wondering if anyone has used this with an older child who’s still not fluent in reading? He knows basic phonics but I think that word building would be a good hands on activity to help things stick.

How would I know where to start or how to use it more as review? I apologize if it’s all explained in the kit. I haven’t read through it all yet.
