    Hello! 🙂

My ds(almost 7) is learning to read. We started just a few months ago learning letter names- I waited as long as I could- probably too long, I realize now, but I pushed my first child way too soon, so I wanted to err on the side of caution, I guess. I’ll get it right by the last child, right? 😉

So I bought Delightful Reading and love it! We went slowly at his pace through the Rain lessons. Daily reminding myself “there is no occasion to hurry the child, there is no occasion to hurry the child, there is no…..” hee, hee. Now all of a sudden he has blossomed, taken off, want to read other books. Someone gifted us a few Dr. Seuss books, and he loves those. I want to find some books that aren’t twaddle, I see some of you have posted some in another thread- thankful for that! 🙂

My question is should I continue to finish the Delightful Reading lessons straight through to the end? I’m sure there is no one right way, but I do want to follow what Charlotte would do. But at the same time, I don’t want it to feel forced. Oy. Being a perfectionist is tiring. 😉

    Thanks, all.

Congratulations on having an eager reader!

It seems that the goal of Delightful Reading is to build confident readers who have a love of good literature. If you son is continueing to feel confident and is learning new concepts on his own, a preplanned program shouldn’t be necessary. If his growth ceases and he is still reading Dr. Seuss when he would like to be reading something more, maybe Delightful Reading will push him on ahead.

We used Delightful Reading for a few months and then started to make our own word tiles for difficult sentences in books that my son wanted to read on his own. It has worked well so far.

    mtnmama,

How do you make your own word tiles?  I have some, but they are in a strange font that just confuses my dd. Thanks for sharing suggestions with all of us!
