Does anyone have any good suggestions for a devotional type book that will list bible passages meant for different situations, such as if I am thankful, having trouble with my child, need help with patience, etc. I want something that will point me in the right direction depending on my mood or need at that moment. Thanks for the help!
Not sure if you are meaning something for personal study for yourself or something to do with your kids, but you may want to look at For Instruction in Righteousness from Doorposts. It lists verses by various topics – more geared towards child traning issues and verses you could use to teach/train in various areas – but I have found it helpful for my own personal study as well. For example, I was struggling with selfishness awhile back and found it very helpful (and convicting!) to go through and study all the verses listed under that topic for myself. This is more of a resource book than a daily devotional however.
As I’ve been doing Polished Cornerstones, I have seen many activities that pertain to me, especially in the oldest girls’ sections. It’s not actually a devotional, but the verses are mostly there at the beginning of each topic, and I use those as my devotional occasionally throughout the week.
One of my constant favorites for the last few years ihas been Devotions for Moms by Ellen Banks Elwell. It’s a One Year Daily Devotional, put together topically (by weeks).
I like the looks of For Instruction In Righteousness (recommended by MamaSnow). And there are two copies listed on homeschoolclassifieds.com for an excellent price!
I also have used One Hundred and One Devotions for Homeschool Moms by Jackie Wellwood. I believe it has a topical index in the back, but don’t quote me on that. Also cheap on Amazon, for shipping + $.01.
This may sound something like MamaSnow recommended but I use my Strong’s Dictionary and look up words like Patience and Anger and study these passages. I have really enjoyed doing these little personal Bible studies on my own. I usually write the verses as I find them and this really helps me remember more.
