I searched the SCM bookstore but can’t seem to find a cursive book for 5th grade. My son has done A Reason for Handwriting for 2 years, then Rod & Staff cursive this year. His writing has grown tremendously, but I would like to still continue reinforcing these habits. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!
If he’s doing well, how about choosing some great copywork from his literature books and letting him work on it to perfect his skills? If you don’t already own a suitable font to create your own copywork you can buy them online quite easily. I am not sure what style his previous lessons used but I did a quick search and found this site for many of the popular programs fonts, there are many others available and then you can print your own copywork. If he doesn’t need it printed on the page for him first you can have hm copy off another paper or whiteboard, etc. and not worry about getting the font. He might even enjoy getting to choose his own sentences from his reading materials. 🙂
Has he already learned cursive? If not, my 5th grader learned cursive this year using the print to cursive book from SCM and has continued from there just practicing his cursive via copywork, as suggested above. If you are looking for some copywork that continues to model the cursive, you can have a look at copycat – free online: http://www.copycatbooks.com/free_c_printables.htm .
