I’ve only ever read the Chronicles of Narnia, and really want to read more C.S. Lewis this year. However, I’m not sure which one of his titles to start with.
Any recommendations?

If you’re talking about reading for yourself, I highly recommend The Screwtape Letters and Mere Christianity. The Screwtape Letters is probably THE book that helped me understand how Satan attacks God’s people, using methods we think are merely human. It’s fictional, but powerful and gives an interesting perspective. Mere Christianity is a book every Christian should read for apologetics. Also, The Case for Christianity is a book that I think all believers should read, especially if they can read it when they are new believers.
If you haven’t read Narnia with your children, do it! They’re some of our very favorites.

What sorts of subjects do you want to read ABOUT? Lewis addressed topics ranging from philology to medieval literature to literary criticism to Greek myth to grief to poetry to joy to love to religion basics to Satan to hell to science fiction. And a few stops I’m sure I missed! I’d pick a topic I was interested in and head there first!

Yes, Lindsey, I was talking for myself! Thank you for the recommendations. I have both Mere Christianity and The Screwtape Letters on my shelf. So I guess I will start with one of those.
I plan on reading Narnia with my kids this year. We have listened to the Focus on the Family Radio Theatre versions of the series and we all LOVE them! I hope they enjoy the books as much as I did as a kid (and now as an adult)!

Bookworm…I had no idea his writing varied so much! Wow! I guess I just want to familiarize myself more with him and his writing…his works are so popular and well known that I just want to get better acquainted with them myself.
I have the following titles on my shelf :: Mere Christianity, The Screwtape Letters, The Abolition of Man, The Great Divorce, The Problem of Pain, Miracles, A Grief Observed. They are part of a Complete Signature Classics book that I have! I just wanted to know which wold be a good place to start! 🙂

Read them all! You won’t be disappointed. C.S. Lewis’ books on the Christian life are, in my opinion, foundational and full of good truth and apologetics. If anything, sharing what you know in a circle of friends, pastors, or seminary students will make you look very smart!

Everyone seems to love the Screwtape Letters. I think they are OK, but prefer myself of the ones you have The Great Divorce (very thought-provoking) and Miracles. I found A Grief Observed to be difficult. The Abolition of Man is more of a literary-criticism type book. I liked it, but I like to read stuff like that.
