There’s a history channel special called Crescent and the Cross which I found interesting. There’s another called The Crusades with Terry Jones of Monty Python fame, but apparently it’s a serious documentary with a little humor taking alittle edge of it; haven’t seen this though.
The last is an actual movie by Cecil B. DeMille from 1935 called “The Crusades”; it’s not rated and considering some of the choices from the 30’s , that doesn’t necessarily mean it’s appropriate! so you’ll want to preview it, but that one may work, just don’t know how accurate it is. Remember, he’s the director of Heston’s Ten Commandments, which was good.
Maybe Vision Forum has some options? I looked on netflix under ‘crusades’ for these ideas. It’s a hard time period as new vdocumentaries can be overly politically correct regarding Islam, or if they’re too old, overly soft on the treatment by the Christians, especially regarding the horrible way Christians treated the Jewish community during this time period.
Also, Robin Hood’s legend occurs during this time; the Adventures of Robin Hood with Errol Flynn and the old 50’s British tv series that my son (age 9) loves with Richard Greene, The Adventures of Robin Hood.
