My Mom likes to get magazine subscriptions for my kids and asked me recently about Cricket Magazines. I guess there are several different ones depending ont he age of your child. I have never seen them before and was wondering if anyone here has looked them over and wold offer an opinion please?
I’ve heard of them and was getting ready to subscribe my son as well! He really likes to look at magazines so I started a search to fine some that are safe and educational!
We receive Click and Ask which are both put out by Cricket Magazine. They are AMAZING! My kids can’t wait to get them in the mail. We chose to go with their science/exploration of the natural world themed magazines instead of their literature focused ones, such as Ladybug and Cricket, since we already expose the kids to lots of literature.
We have subscribed to their literature magazines in the past (Ladybug and Cricket) and enjoyed them. However, when we tried Muse (science and arts), I was disappointed by the evolution-based science articles. That is my tender spot in kids’ magazines (like National Geographic Kids). It may not be yours. You’ll have to check out their different options for yourself, but it is a good company. They were willing to change my subscription without any hassle.
My daughter (8) also enjoyed Cricket which is their history magazine, and my nephews (7, 11, and 13) love all their magazines and they are always so excited to get them in the mail. I think they’re a great thing.
I just came across Kids Discover. Anyone ever heard of this site or used their magazines/booklets? They look interesteing to me,based on the digital sampler.
ETA: Upon further perusal, they look thin on content, but wonderfully formatted.
My younger DD loves Ranger Rick! No ads, and much better than National Geographic Kids, IMO. My girls email “Rick” with their nature questions, and he writes back. They love it.
