Both kids are coughing their heads off. (Exaggeration, but still I can tell they’re miserable.) We have no fever, no nausea or vomiting, one child has some clear mucous, the other has no mucous, both kids had fever earlier in the week. The coughing started after fevers had broken.
We have done homemade elderberry syrup, raw honey, and the humidifier. Can anyone recommend any other natural remedies to suppress a cough?
(Yes, I know none of you are doctors and your posts cannot be substituted for medical advice.)
For coughs I like to use essential oils such as Breathe from doTerra (sometimes w/eucalyptus or melalueca). Or the WinterVapor rub from Beeyoutiful. You can try Goot (a mixture of olive oil, coconut oil and garlic) on their chests and/or feet. I also really like Zand organic herbalozenge in the Tropical Smoothie flavor. Great for coughs and has some zinc and vitamin c along with some other good herbs.
We just had an awful cough go through our house, too. I had some products by Trilight Herbs called Lungs Plus and Wondeful Wild Cherry, which I kept by the bed and gave a squirt anytime a child woke up coughing. Both my husband and I were amazed how effective they were. They do ship quickly, too. There’s also a product by, I think it’s Planetary Herbals called Old Indian Wild Cherry Bark syrup that’s supposed to be great, albeit nasty tasting. That’s one thing I like about Trilight is that they are powerful glycerites, so they’re tasty enough that the kids don’t complain.
Every time I’m in a pinch, I always check out earthclinic.com and check on ailments. They have a variety of of methods that are natural and often times in your kitchen cupboards.
Hope something here will be helpful!
Blessings….. Kim
