I have only looked at ILL, but I would probably go with PLL for 3rd and under, then start ILL for 4th-6th.

momof3, I would wholeheartedly agree PLL for a 3rd grader. That is a general statement, but assuming no real advanced abilities at that age in language definitely PLL. My 10YO son started ILL this year, but he is in 5th grade, and on some things we have to come back and/or reinforce. We also have PLL and can refer to it as well.

My 12YO son uses PLL actually. He is an ESL student, who began English learning 2 1/2 years ago. It is a great fit for him and I’d say his English skills are about a 2nd grade level to give you an idea.

I do credit PLL to a lot of my 12YO son’s language advancement. I only wish I had used PLL with my 10YO son. He used LLATL and it was a big bust for us. Some love it but it just didn’t work at all for us, mainly b/c they didn’t learn from it.
