I ran across this website while searching for info on National Park Day free admissions. (Free National Park Day is September 24, and you can find out if there is one in your state by clicking here.)

Anyway, while researching the James A. Garfield museum in Ohio, I ran across a cool website that has, among other things, history panoramas for a handful of U.S. historical museums. The site is called HistoryBuff.com, and it also features online newspaper archives (you can look at a copy of the Pennsylvania Gazette, printed by Benjamin Franklin), references libraries (including the text of presidential inaugural addresses, an audio library with clips from famous Americans, etc.), state facts, and interactive quizzes.

I’ve just barely poked around it, but there’s a lot of interesting material. One item of note for us homeschooling moms (especially the single moms): if you visit the James A. Garfield National Historic Site panorama, wait for it to load (if necessary), then listen to the 5th view, Garfield’s mother’s bedroom, you’ll hear how one woman persevered through widowhood to raise and educate her children….and was rewarded by seeing her son become president of the United States.
