Looking at old posts but don’t see an answer to my question. First, who has used it? Second, anyone’s husband start a club? And I am confused on what exactly I need. I have been to the site where it says get started but still confused on what all I need.
I have the book, but we’ve never actually started using it:) They seem to leave it totally up to you on how to run the clubs. I’d thought about starting a club. If I did, I would want to get the sashes and awards for each project, a book for everyone…not sure if there’s anything else you need (besides supplies for ea. project, of course:) I’m afraid I’m not much help! Blessings, Gina
We belonged to the companion girls’ group, Keepers at Home, for several years, and we mostly used the book as a guide for what types of activities we wanted to incorporate into our monthly meetings. We made it our own group and came up with our own themes for each year’s agenda, but we did award the badges at the end of the year.
What I’m trying to say is, we did things how they suited our particular group. For example, we awarded badges but left it up to the moms to decide whether their daughters had done enough of the activities to merit the badge. And, we did not require sashes to display badges but allowed them to be placed on a vest, a hat, a scarf….whatever the girls/moms wanted to use.
How did our group start? A mom gathered a couple of other moms, showed them the book and website, made group decisions on what to do that year, found a place to meet…..and off we went! To this date, that group is not “listed” anywhere with the Keepers Clubs website; you’re not required to do so.
I think it’s sort of like McDonald’s….you can use the name and the menu, but if you are a franchise, you run it your own way.
My husband started a Little Contenders club over a year ago to do with our then 4 year old son and his friends. It’s grown quite a bit and our son counts down the days till the next meeting. There is about a group of 10 boys and their fathers/caregivers now and they meet monthly. It’s a wonderful program all around. He sticks to the curriculum pretty much but of course, as with anything, adds and takes away as he sees fit.
In additon, one of our friends has now started a Keepers at Home club the same time as Little Contenders. This month they worked together to start a community garden and earn their garden badges.
If you have any questions feel free to PM me and i’ll answer any other questions you may have. Good luck and God bless!
