I think the key is diligent use of the resources you have available. I have watched many home schoolers (myself included) lay aside a perfectly good curriculum based on the claims if a second curriculum. The second is ditched for a third…. You’re better off diligently using what you have for at least a year. Each method has strengths and weaknesses. But, unless there is a huge readiness indication that it’s not time to even begin, save your money and pursue using what you have already. Whether CM style, intensive phonics, or a combination of things you’ve read up on through the use of library books, your children will eventually read. The key is to make sure they see it as a joyful pursuit, even the learning stages.
BTW, I’ve used all sorts of things. I can recommend them for their strengths and warn against them for their weaknesses. But, the reality is, looking back, I can see the the changes in curriculum are more detrimental than sticking with diligent practice.
