I have the history study and am planning on using the Enrichment Studies, but what do I do for individual studies, because my son is 15. Also I have been using the Van gogh picture study and the enrichment studies do not call for this one, so I’m not sure what to do about this either. Thanks in advance for any help.

Salina – I would think you could switch out the 1st artist in the Enrichment Studies guide for Van Gogh if that is one you currently own.

As far as Individual Studies…  Have you looked at the individual graded recommendations here on SimplyCM?

SCM and anyone, If I use the Spelling Wisdom Book 4 with my 15 yr old and he has never had any textbook grammar, does this mean I would need to use one of the Using Grammar Well books as well? Also is Latin a must or can I use another foreign language? Thanks so much.

You could use Spelling Wisdom for spelling and add Analytical Grammar for grammar. Latin is optional.

    Hi Salina!

My oldest is 15 and has worked through Spelling Wisdom 3, Analytical Grammar and will finish Beyond the Book Report 3 this year. I just want to mention that if you call AG the owner, Erin Karl (who started the company with her mother) is very helpful! I have had a couple of phone conversations with her and found them to be encouraging. I plan to have my son read her mom’s book, The Eternal Argument, this year to get a grasp on why it’s good to read the classics. Hope your year goes well!

Melissa – I agree.  Erin from Analytical Grammar offers excellent customer service + feedback.

Thank you so much Melissa.  Did your son start with Spelling Wisdom 3? I wasn’t sure which book to start him in. I think I noticed that Analytical Grammar is in with Beyond the Book Report?

Yes, he started with Spelling Wisdom 3 and will keep working through it this year. It might be helpful to look at sample pages/word lists from SW3 and SW4 to help you decide. I’m not sure if there’s a way to do that on SCM or not.

Analytical Grammar has 3 seasons. Beyond the Book Report (same company) also has 3 seasons. If you go to the AG website you will find where there are different options for going through the two programs over one, two or three years. She suggests that you alternate seasons and not do AG and BBR at the same time.

You can view samples of Spelling Wisdom Book 3 and Spelling Wisdom Book 4 to help determine which level to start with. Each sample has a few lessons from the beginning of the book and a few from the end of the book.

So I emailed AG and she told me what to start with, and they recommend a root based vocabulary versus a spelling program. Could I just use Spelling Wisdom instead. It seems to keep with CM. I don’t want to get into a bunch of busy work. Opinions?

AG told me that with this and Beyond The Book Report and a vocabulary program that I would be all set. I don’t know. I just don’t want to get into complicated. I looked at Spelling Wisdom Book 4 and am looking forward to this. Yikes, help!

I also have Karen Andreola’s Simply Grammar. The more I look at AG the more complicated it all looks. How does this stay CM friendly?
