For various reasons our dd will be going to a charter high school and so I will only be homeschooling her for 2 more years. I would like to get ancients and reformation years done before this time ends. Has anyone done all 3 years in one but only running one of the bible studies? Am I making sense? I would like to try and put Egypt, Greece, and rome all together if possible, continueing into summer with our reading. However I also don’t want to overload her, so I am wondering if this is doable?
I haven’t tried combining all into one year, Vanessa. Of course, you’re welcome to try to adapt the SCM guides, but I’m wondering whether it might be easier for you to maybe do the Beautiful Feet Ancient History guide. I haven’t used it, but they recommend wonderful living books on their site and it’s already written to do in one year. Might be worth taking a look to save yourself some time. You could possibly supplement with some of our Bible studies if needed or desired. Just an idea.
I went a head and got the BF ancient History guide. Right know I feel like I am pulling it apart so much to make it more CM. For example the use the Streams of Civilization book, which is a textbook like type book. You are supposed to be doing 3 lessons a week. In these first 3 lessons you are to have read ch.1 and ch. 2 ( a total of 42 pages) and both tests by the first week on top of reading Ch. 1-15 in Genesis, create a map of Ancient Egypt adding 11 places, learn about the ancienct sumer, babylonia, and time line work. I put all this here to say that I find myself running back to SCM Ancient family guides. I have tried to spread it out over a week and we are still either spending over an 1.5 on history with my younger son (4th) being completely lost and falling asleep during reading and my older daughter (7th) in tears and not even being able to give good narrations. WE MISS YOU! Am I not expecting enough of my children? I have not homeschooled a 7th grader before. I am sorry I just feel like I am spinning my wheels. I believe BF to be good, just alot. I am trying to rethink this quickly and put together a working plan that we can smoothly transition. I think maybe if I combine the first two guides (which I have seen others doing) we will be through greece and then pick up with rome going into reformation. Does that make sense? I just want you to know that I appreciate ALL that you do! I have never enjoyed my CM education more then with SCM!!
Blessings,
Vanessa
