I love using the SCM guides! We are in Module 6 Modern Times…We started out separating Ancient Egypt, Greece, and Rome into 3 years. This time round (next fall) I’d love to combine them into 1 year.

Anyone who has done this, how did you decide which books to read per term (1 ancient per term)? Was it doable? I’d prefer our girls spend more time in modern when we get there the second time around then spreading out ancient in 3 (long) years. lol

    Thanks!

Are you planning to do the history, geography, and Bible? Or just the history?

If you do just the history lessons, you would probably be able to cover them all in one year by doing one lesson per day. I’m not sure that would be enjoyable, but it is possible.

Here is a recent thread that talks about combining years. It has some links to other threads as well

If you pm me, I’ll email you what I’m doing.  I’m not using the SCM Modules 1-3 guide books (The lesson plans) but I did draw heavily from their booklists and threw some other things in as well.

Well, duh.  I guess I can pm you, too! *L*  I just NOW realized that.  I’ll pm you.

We are doing that this year, I just personally didn’t want to spend a year in each of the ancients, and I don’t think my kiddos did either.  I think it’s pretty easy once you learn how to be more flexible with the lesson plans.  For us, we also use substitute books if I can’t get the recommended books at the library, so then it’s easy to just make our own schedule with the books we have.  I don’t know how young your children are, but I think when they are younger, American History (or whatever country you live in) and modern history is more important than the ancients, so we spend longer/more frequent rotations through them.

My girls are 11, 9, and 7. As a family we read straight thru the OT on our own, so we’ll continue to do that separately, so it’ll be the geo and history that we’ll follow.

I will check out the previous post. I couldn’t find anything in my search. Thank you!
