Hi, I’m new on here. I’ve been drawn to CM method for a while, but tend to waiver on committing to it fully. I really like the look of SCM, and have been reading through the curriculum guide.
I’m wondering if it’s ok to combine my younger boys 7 & 9 for their character building (personal development) study. If so, does it matter what level or book I begin with?
I personally think that combining is the best way. If your kids are close in age. Then you can work on what is best for your family. This is what we are doing for our family. But on the other hand I am fully prepared for times when there may be one child who needs help in one area. In that case I will concentrate on that character trait with them personally. But I do think that most of the time this would be perfect for a family study. And I pick the books that deal with the character traits that I want to work on at the time. I don’t believe that this is a grade level study, it’s personal and should be chosen according to the need.
Yes, feel free to combine them. If you’re looking at the book suggestions on the Personal Development section of the Curriculum Guide, I would probably start with the Miller books (grade 3 and up). I think the Child’s Book of Character Building would be too young for your 9yo probably.
Thanks for your input-I think both of you answered my questions.
I think I will combine them for character building. My main question was if the books applied to certain grade levels or ages, or if I could start anywhere.
Sonya-thanks for the heads up on what level to start with. Linabean-I’m also going to look at what area we specifically need to work on.
Thanks again for the quick answers!
