If you decided to pursue CMH with one, or more of your children, did you just pick up with the grade level your child would be in the next year, or did you back up and begin in a previous year/do some catch up on missed books, etc?

I started CMH with my year one child this year in full (almost), and I implement several parts of it with my other kids. There is no way that I could do all of it with each child, let alone play catch up. We are really enjoying many, but not all of the book choices as well as the personal devotion choices.

We do sort of a combo of SCM and CMH – love them both!

Thanks Lishie. I’m looking at it for our 7yodd. She’d start Year 3 next year, but will have missed some things in Years 1 & 2…unless I add them to this year’s list. I like the layout for her. Our 13yods has a fairly well laid out plan, which I intended to follow for her, too, but I like the CMH layout better for her for some reason.

For years, we’ve done things together as a family. Our older three dc were very close together in age, the youngest of them graduates in December. The age difference between the younger two is making it difficult to combine subjects for whatever reason…I’m really not sure other than attention span/interest. So, I’m leaning toward having them continue with different paths.

Thanks for pointing out the possibility of difficulty in catching up. It’s also nice to know that the personal devotion choices are well chosen.

One the other hand ……one thing that I have really started to see and appreciate about CMH year one is the strong foundation it lays for developing the skill of seeing things in one’s mind’s eye as well as laying a firm foundation for oral composition. So maybe you could work some of those things into this year for your 7yo or over the coming summer….such as having her dictate to you weekly journal entries into their personal journal and “pre-spelling dictation” and visual memory games. All of it is really good! K and year 1.

If you take time to build up this foundation now, it will make the later years of spelling dictation and written narration easier.

    Just my thoughts….:)

Yes, she is working on narrations at this point. I use dictation as she builds her spelling skills. She will be using SW next year, too. Thanks for your help.
