In one of the topics posted today, I asked one of the forum members how she does term exams. Her answer was very helpful. Thank you Heather! I thought I’d throw this topic out there for anyone else to offer their comments.
The question is: How do you put together term exams in a CM-style? Also, for the high school level especially, how do you grade the exams?
I have not had to grade any exams yet, because I do not keep grades prior to 9th grade. I’ve just said “great job” and called it good. I should mention that I live in Kansas, and I do not have to report anything to the state, so I’ve had it easy in that regard. Now, next year will be a new experience since my daughter will begin high school work. I imagine I will put together some sort of simple rubric for grading. I wish I had it all figured out, but I’m not there yet.

Heather, I’m trying to get it all figured out too…doing a lot of reading, researching, and planning right now. 🙂 As I am preparing for the 9th grade, I’ve spent a lot of time pondering, considering, researching, reading, and praying about our approach and how to set up the high school years for my daughter. I considered AO, Beautiful Feet curriculum, and others. What I appreciate here at SCM is that there’s so much information on how to transition and develop a CM-style education. There are so many great blog articles and ebooks and such. And this forum is absolutely wonderful!
I’m working on figuring out how I want to grade each subject this coming year. I’m thinking of using some rubric style grading also.
