I really, really need help organizing my reading schedules, math..well..all subjects. Does the CM Organizer allow you to schedule all subjects and can you put in daily reading schedules for each child?
Just curious..this sounds like something that would greatly benefit the organizationally challenged person, like me…ha! Wow..that was a mouth full!
Yes, you can schedule just about anything, even including chores. You can do a daily reading schedule but entering it in can be a bit of work if you don’t use chapter divisions. I like to use previously entered in divisions wherever possible, then I have several different ways you can keep track of where your child is if you want to assign an amount that does not directly correspond to chapter divisions. You might play around a little with the idea. Have you watched the videos? I love the Organizer and it’s been a great help to me.
That is exactly what I was wanting to know. I think I will try it free for 30 days, I am waiting on some books to come in. This sounds like exactly something I need!
Okay..another thought. My biggest struggle right now is wanting desperately to follow a CM education w/ great living books and read a louds. I keep going back and forth, do I do Sonlight? Part of me wants to just throw in the towel and do Sonlight but what I am wanting is the Instructor’s Guide and that I can combine grades. So..w/ the Organizer there are already great living books in the book guide and I can just put them in and say read a chapter a day. So..my problem of organizing everything can be simply done by sitting down say and putting everything in the organizer, books for older and younger to go along w/ the time period I want to study?
Yup. Then every morning when you wake up, the “next thing” in all the books you’ve entered in is waiting for you. You can tailor your lists individually for your family and for each child. You can use some of the great Sonlight books if you want. You can use AO books. You can use the books recommended in the SCM guides. You can just pick and choose from anywhere you want.
Yes, let’s say you are in the Middle Ages. So you find a good spine, perhaps, for everyone, and choose a few read-alouds that you’ll read to everyone. Then perhaps you get a few easy, shorter books for your young readers, to add to the above. Then you pick out some for your older children. Toss in an activity book if you want. Presto. You have it all ready for you in the Organizer, ready to go. You figure out a rough amount–following the great Planning your CM Education here at SCM is a fabulous and easy start–of how fast you want to go through the books. Then just adjust how often you read each book–we have things we read only once a day, things we do two or three times a week, and things we do everyday. We just tell the Organizer which is which and we are ready to go.
Oh Yes, Kim, PLENTY right here!!! Its not an easy transition at first switching from Sonlight to SCM. May the Lord direct your heart through His peace. What do you feel more at peace doing – sticking with Sonlight or stepping out into the unknown and scheduling all yourself? You know, if you are not ready to completely switch over yet you CAN still do Sonlight in a CM style….living books and readalouds, etc. Also, It would be great for you to try out the Organizer. Maybe you’ll realize just how easy it is. Either way, we’re here for you and you are not “out of the loop” if you decide to stick with the Sonlight IG for now. Its really OKAY!! Do what works for you and your family at this stage in your life – you have a little one at home and you don’t want to miss out on that precious time. 🙂
May the Peace of Christ be your guide!
Heather
