I have been catching up on all the forum posts which are relevant to the CM Organizer since I am interested in using it in the future.
I’m a bit worried because there seems to quite a few times where the organizer is taken offline… how often does this happen and how long would such a session last?
How much notice would I be given?
Are the Organizer’s users notified by email?
I’m in Australia so any night-time maintence is likely to happen during my school day. `
The CM Organizer rarely goes offline unplanned. When that happens, we try to take care of the problem as quickly as we can.
More often, the Organizer is taken offline to do maintenance and updates. We don’t e-mail the users right now, though we may begin doing so in the future. We do post a note here on the forum before the downtime and when it will start, and we add a notice to the home page of the Organizer. Most of the time, planned maintenance doesn’t take more than an hour.
And from a SCMO user, I’d have to say that it really hasn’t been a problem. I think there was maybe once in the 3 years I’ve used it that I went to use it and it wasn’t working…. and it came back up about an hour later.
Their maintenance is generally done at off times…. and as Jordan said, they give notice ahead of time on the forum (generally a day or two of notice…)
I’ve been more than pleased. They work hard to provide updates and features – and do a lot of testing to make sure things work correctly. They listen to the wants of the customer too.
I’m really pleased to hear that most of the time it would only be for an hour.
I would appreciate an email to warn me of when the Organizer would be offline. I would find that more helpful than a post on the forum or on the Organizer’s home page.
I should also add that the recent downtime notices on the forum don’t represent the norm. We did a huge set of updates that needed extra time and to be installed in stages. It was a special circumstance that we had not done before.
Most of the time when we do maintenance it’s a 30 second blip for a quick restart. Most people never notice. Anything we anticipate to be longer is scheduled later in the evening when there should be less use. And many of those times when we scheduled an hour or two ended up taking only 15 minutes or so.
