Please do not get sick of me yet, it takes me awhile to figure things out. I keep “thinking”, coming back to, the CM method of learning. I am reading Catherine Levisons books and I just really want to do this, I am so overwhelmed with trying to figure things out. BUT…I keep coming back to this thought..are there people who just can’t teach this? I don’t seem the CM “type”, if that makes sense. Nature walks, reading aloud (I am trying this), narrating. I want my children to learn to think, which I was not taught, to love to learn and appreciate God’s creation etc.. I just keep thinking that “all this is nice” BUT..maybe it is just not in me.
Or maybe…I need to develop certain “habits” myself and learn to change things, one step at a time, which is hard because I seem to be very black or white.
Maybe just needing some encouragement. I have one in HS now, one will be in HS in a year and I am feeling the urge to “cram”, how can I start them on the CM method of learning now etc…
In Catherine’s book she mentioned trying to “cram” in HS so..I just wish I could relax and do this, I just don’t feel confident to do the CM method, I think I need workbooks and Teachers Guides, yet I can’t get that done w/ 7 children.
Anyway…thanks for “listening”. I keep coming back here after venturing out and I feel led here. I think the Lord wants me to keep things simple and yet I am so complicated.

We public school kids have a very difficult time pulling away from all that we hold true as far as education goes. That can be a very difficult struggle and Satan knows that and plays on it. I call it my ‘heathen philosophy of education’ :).
With cm you are in a position to pray through your children’s strengths and weaknesses and create a truly victorious education for them. Taking it slowly is a good idea, as you said. As you learn to give big pushes in the areas of their strengths and small nudges in their weaknesses, you will have the pleasure of seeing children delighting in learning.
We have eight children; two have graduated. Sure, I can see holes in their education. Everyone has that, no matter how one is educated. The thing is, are they content in the Lord, ready and willing to serve Him, are they truly learning and are they equipped with the ability and desire to learn those things they need as they come upon them?
I do not belittle what you are feeling! I remember when my first one reached highschool and I panicked. Yet, I found that it was unwarranted because he had learned to learn.
Sometimes that does take textbooks, too, and that’s okay. I personally do not believe that cm automatically means you ever and forever may never use a textbook, and SCM recommends some as well. We often, according to the child’s needs, rely heavily on hs science texts, for instance. It’s finding out what God has for the child and going in that direction. It’s also about opening up the world of creation and ideas for them so that when it’s time to settle down into some textbooks, they are not already burnt out. It is incredibly exciting when a child truly wonders at all the possibilities of learning.
So be encouraged! You don’t have to jump in with both feet. As you pray and seek God’s leading, you can take some baby steps that you feel comfortable with and I believe you will see good things happening.
Blessings,
Cindy
