Just curious if anyone delays all formal grammar lessons until age 10…  I know that the SCM guide includes English for the Thoughtful Child in grades 1 and 2, and the Queen Language Lessons (which are CM based) include some grammar at those grades as well.  I was looking at the Primer from Classical Writing which looks super and very CM in approach, but their older levels look overwhelming and intense!  I’m just gathering ideas and would love to hear yours!

I am planning on delaying until 10 for formal grammer.  Durring my ds(6) copywork we have discussed the use of punctuation-an exclamation is for an excited thought, questionmark for questions, apostraphies join two words and possession, etc- and capitalizetion.  But these only come up as we are copying the poems and scripture.  Beyond what comes up durring copywork, I am not teaching him anything and we will use analittical grammer (I think this is it, not sure right now. I’m a little tired and not thinking straight) when he turns 10.  So thats what we are doing.

I taught some basic parts of speech and basic usage in the course of copywork, but did nothing else until 10 when we began dictation and Latin; then we did a bit more, but I wait for a formal grammar course until junior high.
