I’ve only been to the LER, but I love it! I take my hubby with me (who is the unofficial photographer now? LOL You’ll have to attend to find out why. ) The LER is very small and very personal. The ladies who run it take time to sit with you and talk with you – really, they do that with everyone – but it feels like they want to get to know you and love you and help you. And they really do! I love that it’s not big. In fact, one year they discussed moving it to a bigger venue, but we would lose so much of that cozy, comfortable, personal atmosphere that they opted not to. I love the middle-of-nowhere feeling. Getting out into nature is really awesome, especially if one lives in the city (or at least in town, like me). And it fits in well with CM’s philosophy of beauty and appreciating God’s Creation. I also love that the retreat center grows a lot of their own organic food on-site at the retreat center (super yummy, and awesome staff). This is awesome for my dh and me – we are moving toward all organics, and it was partially going to the LER that made us really truly consider that lifestyle – not to mention, we are hoping to someday live off-grid like the retreat center!
Kids can’t come to the LER unless they’re at least 12 (or 13?), and they are expected to help out behind the scenes at least a little bit (which could include watching babies). Even the kids have become friends and look forward to seeing each other every year.
Honestly, I hadn’t heard of the LER until I moved to MN, and now that I know about it, if we move out-of-state someday, I will very, very seriously consider going even if it involved a lot of travel time and extra costs. The other ladies there have literally become friends – I wouldn’t want to miss it for anything!
And that’s my (somewhat biased) review of the LER.
Ha, Robin, they’re only dreams right now! I can’t even manage to get a garden put in! LOL But we try to do what we can…
I hope you get to come up someday for the LER! I know it’s a long drive for you – we just took a road trip last fall to SC – beautiful but long! But so worth it!
