My oldest ds (5) is in the beginning of the CLP Learning to Read phonics program, and is moving through it quickly, so far.  We like the layout of it, and he seems to be learning alot.  He will be finished with it well before the start of our “official” first grade year this fall, but I’m unsure of what to do for 1st grade in this area.  My options are 1)continue with the CLP 1/2 yr reading program that folllows LtR (without using their intensive LA program) or 2)switch to more CM-friendly QLL for Little Ones 3 and possibly have some overlap of concepts.  I just want to be sure he has a good grasp of reading and the phonics rules for first grade without worrying about any true LA instrustion.  WWYD?

We did Sonlight’s LAK and ETC books last year.  Neither one of us liked them.  We are currently using QLL Little Ones 2 for my 6 year old kindergarten daughter. My dd actually reads very well (1st grade Pathway Readers ~ 2nd book), but I’m glad we are doing Vol. 2 instead of 3.  She could do 3 now, but there’s a lot more writing that she’s not ready for.  We truly enjoy QLL and will continue to use them in the future.  In fact, we are going to use Vol. 1 in the fall with my then four-year old.
