We switched to Sonrise Math from Singapore, weary of one struggle after another, and it has been like a breath of fresh air for us! My question to those of you who use it is this… If I scan the lesson and realize that my daughter knows the concept already, will I be making a mistake by skipping the pages that go along with it? She is in 3rd grade, we quit singapore at the end of 2B and started Sonrise 301. I am finding that she knows many of the concepts already, but I am nervous about skipping lessons, afraid I may regret it later. Any ideas?
Hi Heather! I think it really depends on your daughter’s learning style. We recently switched from Math Mammoth to Sonrise math and have had the same delightful experience you have. My daughter actually enjoys doing the pages with topics she already knows. It seems to build her confidence. For some children, however, I am sure it would be drudgery. Don’t be afraid to tailor the curriculum to your daughter’s needs!
Hi Heather, I have to echo what Corie already wrote; it depends on your DD’s learning style. We changed from Abeka 3 last year and my daughter’s math ability has greatly improved, along with her confidence. The simplier pages and colors are calming for her too. She does seem to tire of the Skillbuilder section (she uses Sunrise 4) lately and I’ve been eliminating some of the problems I know she understands. Since you recently switched why not just skim the sections she is familiar with so she gains confidence doing Sunrise. Remember you can always skip more or add skipped work back in for review. Make it work for you!
