Does anyone participate in classical conversations and try and use other curriculum the rest of the week. OH man it is so much work but my girls have learned SO SO much. I am amazed at the work that veritas press has done with the history timeline and memorization cards. We use MFW and charlotte mason the rest of the week so sqeezing all the classsical memory work in is so challenging. I just wondered if there were any other moms in the same boat. I am trying to decide about next year. Things have been so hard this year for us that I might not even homeschool. It is just so tough most of the days:(

Sounds like you might be experiencing burnout Kara. This happens to all homeschool moms from time to time, and it would be wise to backtrack and see where you can simplify and start enjoying learning with your children again. I cut back on two different curriculums this yea in order to make time for my own sanity, energy, and mentality.

Pray and try to pinpoint what is causing you the most stress and discern how to tweak it. I do know this: most moms who try the classical way are exhausted. There is just sooo much memorizing and pressure. If your kids are much older, this is probably ok. But I would suggest not to do this if you have littles. Yes, Veritas Press has some great resources. I use a few of their books from time to time. But make it fit your own schedule and needs, not over doing it.

    Blessings to you!

I agree with simple home.  If I’m reading your message correctly, are you saying that the stress of the schooling is causing you to consider not homeschooling?  If so, I would definately just figure out what’s most important and simplify.  I know it’s hard to see the good in so many programs/methods and not want to miss anything…but we truly don’t need to do it all:)  My friend saw a neighbor’s 4th grade history/social studies text and it gave one paragraph about George Washington, and lots of info. about what bus drivers do, etc. Not that we should compare, but I’m sure you could do less than what you’re doing and still be doing way more than the average school setting.

CM is classical, but in a different way than the WTM or Veritas Press Way.  My friend who teaches strictly Veritas had her 6th grader working from like 8-4 last year (though I think that included lunches, occasional classes).  It’s easy to feel like you’re missing out when you see that.  But I’ve chosen to add some elements of each method that I like and lesson other things….otherwise it’s just too much.  HTH some:)  Gina
