I am looking for a good documentary (high school level, accurate) on the U.S. Civil War.  We have been reading from William J. Bennet’s book, “America, The Last Best Hope,” but we have to set it aside for a couple of weeks for reasons I won’t get into.  I would like to watch a good documentary together on the Civil War until we can use the book again.

    Any recommendations?  Thanks.

I don’t  know of any, but could you check websites for historical places of interest? They might have online video similar to what they show at their historical sites?  I grew up near the Chickamauga – Chattanooga National Battlefield Park in GA and they have a film about that particular battle in their museum.  I don’t know if they would have anything online, but it might be worth a look.

It’s been years since we watched it, but the Ken Burns Civil War documentary series was top notch in its visuals, narration and music. At the very end, there is a short (and obviously very rough) film of elderly Civil War veterans from both sides having a reunion – it brought tears to my eyes and was worth the whole documentary.
