Hello everyone!  We are new to HS and are enjoying the CM method.  We have two DS (4 years, 10 months;  2 years, 2 months) and are expecting in April.  We are trying to make nature study a big part of our days right now, and would love to have company on our explorations.  Anyone in the Cincinnati area who would like to meet up for nature study?

I’m just north of cincinnati, if you find me on Facebook I could add you to several HS groups I am in that get together for activities frequently. My name is Nikki Keller 🙂

Hi Nikki!  THANK YOU for your post.  I really appreciate it.  🙂  I am sorry it took me a bit to respond.  I would LOVE to hear about your HS groups.  I unfortunately am not on FB but my husband (John Muhlhauser) is.  I will send a friend request thru him now.  Also, my email is [E-mail removed to avoid spammers harvesting it. Please use the private message (PM) feature.].  Thank you again.  It means a lot!

I confirmed your request and added you to two groups that I am in. The secular one is more active, though they aren’t anti-religious.  I saw you are also in the SOHO group, which is *extremely* active.
I’m glad you found me!  🙂

I’m in Cincinnati, as well. I think I’m part of the SOHO group but most of their activities are way north and west of me. I’d love to do something for nature studies. We’ve just started our CM journey and that has quickly become one of our favorite things. Nikki- if I friend you can you add me to those groups as well?

Hi Nikki!  Thank you so much.  SOHO seems really neat, and I signed up for a farm outing in October.  YAY!  So thank you.  I am excited to meet more HS families.

Kimad- GREAT!  We would love to meet up with you sometime.  Where are you located?  We are in Anderson.  We are new to CM as well and I am learning (slowly!) how to do nature study. 🙂 We belong to the Cincinnati Nature Center—  Have you ever been there? It is amazing.  We just love it.  They put in a playscape about a year ago that is fenced in and really lets the children explore- safely.  My four-year-old roams around and feels so much freedom in exploring, while my 2-year-old can spend hours there as well.  They have planted so many plants that attract butterflies/birds, etc., and have made little nooks to encourage exploration and creativity.  My boys were building a fort the other day out of logs and long grass that was placed there.  There is also a little creek with tiny waterfalls that they can explore.  Outside of the playscape, there are a ton of trails with different things to explore.  We especially love the Geology trail that crosses over a stream a couple of times.  I do have to say that with being pregnant, I have had a hard time hiking with the boys without my husband, but I know I will regain that someday.  🙂  It’s just that the 2-year-old has to be carried sometimes, and sometimes I feel like I need to be carried!  Hahaha!  They have all these great activities, and the people who work there love nature and have already taught me so much.  Here is their link:  http://www.cincynature.org/

We’re neighbors! I’m in Eastgate. We have been to the nature center. We like it so much, though we haven’t been since they put in the children’s area. I have a friend that worked on the site, though, and he told me it was great. I don’t think I ever noticed the geology trail. The girls and I really love the little cabin near the stream. They pretend they are Laura and play at little house on the prairie.

If you want you can PM me your email and we can chat. 🙂

What is the SOHO group? I’m near Dayton and wonder if it’s close to me.

Hello! SOHO is the Southern Ohio Homeschool Organization.  I did a search on google for groups and found it.  Here is their website:   http://soho-letsgetsocial.yolasite.com/

yet it seems they use FB more and post a lot on there.  It seems to have a lot of activities to do.  I am going to a farm with them at the end of the month!
