Hello ladies!  I had posted a while back about needing to finish 6 modules in 5 years.  Someone had a great idea of using Mod 1 as our “Bible” curriculum because it’s so much Bible, and then using another Module for our History curriculum.  I am ready to go ahead with that idea, but here’s what I am struggling to decide.

I will use Mod 1 as Bible.  But should I do Mod 2 as our History?  Or should I jump to Mod 4, Middle Ages, Ren & Ref?  My kids are very interested in the Ages and have been wanting for a while to learn about Kings, Queens, Feudal system, etc.  But they have expressed some interest in the Ancients, too.  I just wonder if it would be confusing to be doing Egypt AND MA, Ren, & Ref, then go back to Rome the next year?

FYI, we have done explorers through the founding of America thru the Civil War, which is what we’re working on now.  It’s been about two or three years – so since my oldest was 10ish and my next oldest was 6.5ish.  My Next student has really only been listening in for the last year or so…she’s 6.5 now.  Next year I will be teaching an 8th grade dd, a 4th grade ds, an older first grader (she’ll turn 7 in Nov), and one 4 yo preschooler, who may listen in now and again.

    Thoughts?

    Thanking you in advance!

I’d go chronological… but where you want to start is up to you (or them).

Not sure how hard it would be to do the Mod 1 as bible combined with another timeframe… but I don’t think it would matter which timeframe you combined it with, as it would be a different timeframe no matter what

    Here’s what I’d do…

When my kids are very interested in a topic it is almost always interesting to me as well. I don’t know if you homeschool year round or not, but I’d take the summer and do something with the Middle Ages. Sort a like a mini unit study, I don’t know that I’d have a real heavy load since it’s nice to be outside during the summer. But I’d find some read-alouds and living history books about that time period etc. I’d focus on enjoying that period of history, and avoid getting bogged down in the planning of it as I sometimes do Wink.

For the rest of it – I would keep the chronological flow of history going. So in the fall I’d start Module 1 for Bible and then Module 6 for history as it is the next one chronologically, since you’ve just covered the topics in Module 5 (America’s Founding – Civil War).

Even if you homeschool year round… is there any reason you couldn’t start Module 1 for Bible, summer on Middle Ages for fun, and then start Module 6 the next term, in the fall?
