I have it and Easy Grammar Plus. I think that I’m going to use parts of R&S to finish out this year and then perhaps use EGP, but I’m not sure. How’s that for helpful?
I’m not Christie but I used R+S grammar for a few years (the 2nd thru 4th grade books as I recall). My kids did learn with it, specifically they learned to diagram sentenecs well and to find subjects and predicates and identify parts of speech, things like that. But it has a lot of busywork, way more than most kids will need. We didn’t do all the exercises, did many of them orally that were supposed to be written, and after a couple of years of it still found it very repetitive. I think if one wanted to use it, I would suggest using it for a year or two as an intensive course in such things but not necessarily planning on using to for years to come.
With that, what are you using Nebby? And Christie, what is it that you like about EGP? And are you satisfied w/ doing both of these? Are you looking still for something else that you might change to?
Questions questions!! My brain is dizzy looking at all these!! ANY help would be appreciated!!
We use KISS grammar which is free online. It does approach things a little differently than others, for example not beginning with the parts of speech but rather focusing on how words function in a sentence. I blogged on it here:
I love Rod and Staff. I find that it lends itself to CM with just some adaptations. I don’t use it until 6th grade. Then I start with the 4th grade book (it’s foundational). You can do a lot of it orally. It has helped my children with oral narrations because it’s so gentle in it’s writing. I don’t like the younger ones – it’s too much too soon!
We struggled with Kiss. There wasn’t enough instructions. I have sisters that love it.
