I am curious how redundant Children’s Story of the World and Story of The Ancient World would be. Both of these look wonderful. I am looking to use one with SCM history mod. 1. What do others like or not like about these two books.
We used SOTAW last year as part of a study of the ancients for my sons aged 11-14, and all enjoyed it greatly. I believe it goes much further into Biblical history and contains a great deal more history from that time period than does CHOTW – if you are referring to Hillyer’s Child’s History of the World. If you are referring to Bauer’s SOTW Ancients, that book goes into a great deal of detail about the ancient world, throughout the fall of Rome, but not as much detail of Biblical history, and little history from a Biblical perspective. I think your choice would depend on the scope, sequence and breadth and perspective you are looking for. Also, SOTAW is written at a much higher reading or comprehension level than the other two books I’m guessing you might be referring to; you might be able to find samples online to see which level would be best for yoru students.
I am referring to Hillyer’s CHOW and Miller’s SOTAW. We do own SOTW Ancients. We are working through SCM mod 1 and I ordered Children’s Bible by Vos because my daughter is having a difficult time with some of the bible readings. I am learning along with her and have a hard time breaking it down. I am looking for something to break up and add to our other readings. I was able to look at samples of SOTAW but can’t find anywhere to look inside CHOW.
This chart shows a comparison of SOTW and CHOW’s chapters; perhaps it would help you to see what topics are covered? CHOW is written at about the same reading level as SOTW, in my opinion, if that helps to know.
