Has anyone subbed out the Scripture readings in Genesis-Deut & Ancient Egypt for the coordinating chapter in the Vos Child’s Story of the Bible? I’m wondering about doing this for my 6yr old as she hasn’t been taken through this Bible story book yet and the commentary with it is so delightful. I’m in the middle of making myself a chart of each lesson and any exta books/maps for each lesson so I can have a quick day by day view of each lesson. Thanks for any help!
I’ve done that for the first three guides and we just finished going through the entire Child’s Story Bible. We did the Egypt guide in 1st grade and combined the Greece and Rome guides for 2nd grade. It was absolutely lovely, and I highly recommend going that route!
I just took a few hours one weekend with my Bible and the Vos text and put sticky notes into the Vos with correlating lesson numbers. I’m looking forward to going through it again with my youngest 🙂
Oh, I never thought of doing it that way! That’s exactly what I’d like to do. Would you mind sharing with me Amanda, how you combined the Greece and Rome guides?
Sure! From what I remember, the Greece guide has Bible 3 days a week and the Rome guide has it 2 days a week. So I just went through and matched all the Vos readings up to what was scheduled in the lessons and made a schedule for reading 5 days a week through the entire school year. I really wanted my main focus to be the biblical aspect of the time periods, so for the history and geography aspects of the guides I just picked what I thought would interest my kids (7,4,2) and spread it out as evenly as I could. I hope that helps!
