I just picked up a copy of this (Bill Bennett’s book) at a thrift store today. Would a book of this type be considered Character Development and be read once a week?

I think so. You could probably add some notebooking or lapbooking to it. Also, maybe find Scripture to reinforce the character attribute taught in the story. I like to teach the children how to recognize Scriptural Truth (and untruth as found in “G-d Helps those who Helps themselves from Aesop) even within pagan stories, like what is found in many Classical Virtue stories, such as these.

We have used this book and liked it. Yes, we read it once a week, and it took us longer than a year to get through it, but that was OK. I second Rachel’s suggestion to add Scriptures to the selections. Also use them for discussion!

This book has been one of our favorites. We read it last year and I plan on reading it over and over for years to come. It’s an amazing collection.
If anyone has a specific Scripture that they used with one of the stories and loved; I would like to hear. Thanks!

I love Bennett’s books. We have the one on Virtues, Heroes and America. The Child’s Book of Virtues is on the list for Sonlight which how I first heard about it. I’ve since found all of them second hand. My son really LOVES these stories and remembers them. There are also videos based on these stories that I picked up from the library.
