My 7 year old dd loves to write and do worksheets, as well as make up notes, letters, songs and draws a lot in her free time.  She does enjoy listening to read alouds for history, but even then is usually writing or making up math equations or something while listening.  She likes to work independently and worksheets keep her busy.  She likes to feel busy… if that makes sense.

My 9 year old ds writes well (neat copy work and math), but has no interest in writing anything more than he has to.  He struggles with spelling and we are working on that slowly.  Even though he doesn’t write much, he does like worksheets too (and checklists) because he sees how much he has done and how much left to do.

I have tried to cut down on worksheets and busywork, but what do you do when the children ask for more of them?  Somedays I feel like I am the only one benefiting from a CM style education 🙂

    Blessings,

Thats the beauty of HSing—there are no ‘wrong’ ways of doing it.

If she enjoys it–give her journals, notebooks, workbooks, ect, along with your CM things.

My 8yo girl is the same. So she does alot of written narrations and journaling.

My oldest girl was the same–loved workbooks–she felt she was accomplishing more when she did workbooks—so she did ACE paces along with reading/ narrations—I think girls tend to be this way more than boys.

Just relax and enjoy—-it really is a good thing that she ‘likes’ to write and keep busy. That is just how God made her.

    Hi Michelle,

I understand what you mean about thinking that you’re “the only one benefiting from a CM style education”. I’ve felt this way quite often. I do have a son that loves workbooks. As long as its working, I don’t try to fix it Wink. Also, my boys love having their own personal homeschool planners – where they know what needs to be done next, check it off, and see all that they’re accomplishing.

    God Bless You!

    Hi Mic,

We’ve tried many different planners over the years and our favorite is Joanne Calderwoods “Homeschool Student Planner” from http://www.urthemom.com We’ve been using these for the past few years.

    God Bless! Heather
