I’ve considered it. I went to LER last year and it was nice. CLUSA is near my home town, but I’m not sure I can get away for that long. I’m trying to work it out though. My understanding from speaking with nancy Kelly who leads LER and participates in CLUSA is that LER is more personal and CLUSA is more academic. Both good and valuable, but from different perspectives.
I’m also considering an ambleside internship for next year. I just can’t learn enough, I suppose.
That’s good information to have. It is further away for me, but I would fly intead of drive. I think we have a free certificate.
Ambleside Internship? I’ll have to google that. lol
Let me know if you end up going…I’m going to start praying about it and researching it some more. I don’t know if i want to take that kind of time away yet…
The events are very different. One is a retreat and one is a conference. While we might have the same content/speakers, the LER is also about atmosphere and living the philosophy in a peaceful environment. We are concerned about helping the individual spiritually, emotionally, physically and intellectually.
The CLUSA conference is longer and has at least twice the attendees. Mako will be speaking one evening, too! It is a wonderful event, just different. I will be doing an immersion group, a 101 speech, a panel and a talk on imagination this year.
Ours will stay at only 70 attendees in order to keep it more intimate and to nurture relationships. (We thought and explored the idea of expanding very seriously for this year, the God has led us to stay put and continue at Shalom Hill.)
Just an fyi – we are already 1/3 full. Last year we filled up after 6 weeks and we suspect it will be even quicker this year.
What is LER? I have a friend who went to ChildLight last year and loved it. She is planning to go again this year. I thought about going, but I have a conflict with the dates.
My friends and library owners, Liz and Emly Cottrill, will be speaking at CL this year. SO wish I could go but we have a farm and my son’t 9th birthday is in the middle of it all.
Aw, too bad you missed the LER! I would have loved to meet you! Does anyone have a link for the ChildLight conference?
artcmomto3, the Living Education Retreat is basically a small-scale “conference” of sorts, but it’s much more personal, no vendors, very spiritual and relaxed. There is a main speaker who gives a few presentations, plus there are break-out sessions with a small number of parents to learn about specific aspects of a CM education. Last year the focus was on an all-around CM education – what it is, what it looks like, how to do it. This year it’s focusing more on science & nature study. Can’t wait because science is so *not* my forte! LOL Spouses are welcome, too. My dh is going again this year, he liked it so much last year. 🙂 Sure surprised me! He usually doesn’t like this sort of thing, so if he enjoys it, that’s saying a lot. 😛
