It’s late but I just returned from my work trip, and I wanted to tell all of you how excited I am to be reading her books.  I was afraid they would be boring.  Her writings are convicting, encouraging, fascinating, interesting, educational, etc.!  I would encourage anyone one who hasn’t read these to read them.  I actually cried when she described the value of children and our role in the Gospels.  I would love to hear other’s reactions to her volumes!

    Blessings,

I am currently reading the 5th volume in the series, Formation of Character. I have been having so much difficulty with habits in my children that I started with that one; I haven’t even read the others yet! I love the language she uses. It makes me want to rewind time and live in the Victorian era. (That’s silly, I know.) Even as I read her writings, I pray for her gentleness, kindness, and patience. They are very convicting, but in a good way. They cause me to strive to be more Christ-like for my children, not just for my own salvation. Some of the things she writes, though, are difficult for me to understand, and I find myself re-reading a few passages.

If I could ask her advice now, I would want to know what practical examples she would use on my own children and habits she could help us break or form.

It’s changed my way of thinking about how I am raising and educating my kids.  Amazing writings that are just as informative and wise as they were 100 years ago.  Children are small humans with little experience or knowledge yet, are treasured by Christ, and in our care for a short amount of time.  What do I want to pour into them?  How do I emmulate Christ’s love to them?  Tall order to fill.  Very convicting text, but strangely encouraging at the same time.
