I’m a latecomer to this thread, but I love reading about other’s schoolrooms…
We have four kids – dd10, ds7, dd4, ds1. Most of our reading is done on our living room couch, right beside our school room which was a formal dining room at one time. Things requiring writing or a solid surface are done in the schoolroom and we store our current year’s books and needed supplies here. I have SEVERAL other bookshelves of books and a closet of bookshelves for our school specific books, but this is where the action is.
I am SO thrilled with my CM homeschool room now. I’m still looking for wall decor (field guide posters with a vintage look would be awesome) and I would love the roll-up maps, too, but I’ve finally managed to get this room to be what I want after 5 years. Oooohh! So beautiful Christie! Very inviting. 🙂 Getting lots of good ideas from your pic’s. Our school room is in our (repurposed) dining room too, but we don’t have as much room as you do. Still, looking at what you have done is inspiring! You’ll have to post more pic’s when you get the walls finished. That is always the hardest part for me. 🙂
Christie, everything looks great! All of your personal touches are beautiful. I’m in the midst of planning and have some extra motivation now to get last year’s stuff cleared out for the new!

Our school room is off the kitchen (not really sure what the room is ment to be). Anyway it’s decorated to look like an old one room school house…. fireplace, old lawers bookcase, antique double school desk– complete with ink wells (looks just like the kind in the Harry Potter movies!), my desk is a 1930 vintage teachers desk, we have a huge old blackboard and a rocking chair in there as well. Over the arch window from the schoolroom to the livingroom I painted on the wall “{ our last name}’s one house school room”
It’s my FAVORITE room in the house! And yes we do do almost all our school work in there!

Lindsey, a room off the kitchen with a fireplace is called a hearth room. It is currently in my favorite house plan that I want to build one day….hopefully! It will be my favorite room too.

Our school room looks alot like a kitchen too, or maybe a living room, or maybe both or well just anywhere we want to do school. Because its Fall, it looks alot like Gods great outdoors. I LOVE the freedom to school wherever!
