Has anyone ever used Beautiful Feet’s Character Through Literature package? I am familiar with many of the books that are used, but wondering if anyone has ever actually used the study guide that goes with it and if you found it worthwhile or not. Along the same lines, is anyone aware of any kind of literature list that is arranged by character traits? I know I’ve seen threads in the past where people have been asking for book titles to go through a particular character or habit topic, so I’m guessing that perhaps there’s not. Just wondering though. I for one would love to have something like this handy for a list of good stories to throw in our book basket as we are working on a particular trait or habit.

As an example, a character trait is studied with scripture and also gives examples of real people with godly character and their effect on such things as science and other subjects.
I try to steer towards a character resource that promotes God’s grace, and not the ones that emphasize how good YOU have to be to receive God’s blessings through your character. We, by ourselves, can never be good enough in character. Only through Christ can we be saved, and I don’t want my kids to feel they have to be “good enough” to be saved. Some resources I have read for character give that impression. I hope the one that I mentioned to you isn’t like that! 🙂

we actually are currently using the iblp (institute for basic life principles) character booklets…we’ve done diligence and are working on attentiveness, obedience is next. we love them! We also have the three LARGE vols called Character Sketches…impressive resource very impressive…nature study and Bible study around a character trait…we love them…they are very rich…the art work is marvelous…really amazing
the wisdom book sample at ati…iblp’s advanced training institute– on mourning (blessed are they that mourn)…the very beginning quiz show’s some of their philosophy i think…and salvation is clearly grace baced… they are very diligent about growing in character and being responsible and proactive about that growing—but through Christ and Christ Alone comes salvation.
this is what my husband uses for our family Bible time (character/personal dev.)…we start off with the Child’s Book of Character Building and then continue with the booklets…when we can match up the two… like with diligence…we worked on it for about a month i think.

Joanna, the character booklets look interesting. I wanted to see a sample though. Could you describe how they present the topic? Is it just a story, or is there more to it?

no not really a story
here is the table of contents–ea section is one to two pages in length
their are some pictures throughout of various sizes and numbered bullets and different size and type fonts…and even some ck boxes…very user friendly!
What is diligence?
To whom does God command us to show diligence?
How did Jesus demonstrate diligence?
Who in history showed diligence?
How does the beaver illustrate d?
What animal illustrates the opposite of d?
What are the symptoms of slothfulness, and what is the cure?
How can diligence be developed? which includes seperate sections on How to be diligent to God, Parents, Conscience, Teachers, Government, Employers
How must d be balanced?
Recognition for progress in d.
